- ICT in Schools Census 2013
- The ICT in Schools Census 2013 is now live and for the first time is available online.
- Two sisters from St Joseph’s College win Online Safety Competition
- Sisters Judith and Tessy Ehiguese from St Joseph’s College in Lucan, Co Dublin, have been awarded the top prize in Trend Micro’s second What’s Your Story? competition to promote online safety among school-going children and teenagers.
- The Inaugural National Digital Education Summit
- This summit will examine, amongst other things, what Ireland’s education system and more importantly it’s students can gain from the adoption of new technologies like cloud computing.
- Using Maps in Geography workshops
- These workshops will focus on the use of maps in teaching Geography. The workshop will include the use of the Ordnance Survey Discovery Series of maps and the new version of Scoilnet Maps.

- As the former NCTE has become PDST Technology in Education, the online learning platform used by NCTE to provide online term-time and summer-time courses to teachers is also changing.
- Scoilnet Interactives
- Scoilnet has produced a number of interactive activities comprising, timelines, drag and drop activities and images to suit a selection of primary and post primary subject areas.
- Looking ahead to summer courses
- Almost 200 instances of four face to face courses will be made available by PDST Technology in Education through the education centre network this summer.
- Further roll-out of high speed broadband
- All second level schools in Dublin, Meath and Kildare will have high speed (100Mbps) broadband installed during 2013, the Minister for Education and Skills, Ruairí Quinn T.D., and the Minister for Communications, Energy & Natural Resources, Pat Rabbitte T.D., announced recently.

- The ninth ICT in Education Conference will be hosted by LIT Tipperary on Saturday 11th of May 2013 with the theme "Student Voices".
- EdTech2013 Opening Up Education – Content, Learning and Collaboration
- The Irish Learning Technology Association (ILTA) will hold its 14th annual conference EdTech2013 "Opening Up Education – Content, Learning and Collaboration" on May 30-31 2013 in UCC.
- CESI 4.0 - Back to our Future - National Conference 2013
- The CESI National Conference 2013 will take place in GMIT, Galway on Saturday, February 23rd. Celebrating 40 years, the cobference will see over forty workshops and presentations from leading Irish and international practitioners.
- Safer Internet Day 2013
- Safer Internet Day 2013 is an EU wide initiative to promote a safer Internet for all users, especially young people, and will be celebrated in Ireland on Tuesday 5th February 2013.
- DES Diversity of Patronage survey
- The Department of Education and Skills is conducting a survey of parents in 38 areas across Ireland asking who they would like to see running primary schools.
- Minister Quinn announces free access for students to online encyclopaedias
- The Minister for Education and Skills, Ruairí Quinn T.D., has today announced free home access to the online edition of Encyclopaedia Britannica via Scoilnet for all school-going children.
- Summer Courses 2013
- It’s not too early to start planning for a summer course in your own school by applying to your local education centre to have a PDST Technology in Education face to face course provided as whole school training (WST).
- Access Encyclopaedia Britannica anytime, anywhere
- Free home access to Britannica through Scoilnet Access to Encyclopaedia Britannica is now completely free through Scoilnet regardless of your location in Ireland.
- West Cork students are crowned BT Young Scientists of the Year
- A team of students from Kinsale Community School have been crowned overall winners of the 2013 BT Young Scientist & Exhibition.
- Ask.fm: A Guide for Parents and Teachers
- Webwise has published a guide for Parents and Teachers on Ask.fm.
- New Scoilnet Maps Website
- The new Scoilnet Maps website is now live! It features a comprehensive range of Ordnance Survey Ireland (OSi) maps, world maps and lots of GIS data that can be viewed as "layers" over the maps.
- Department of Education and Skills Find a school facility
- The new Department of Education and Skills website includes a Find a school facility. This map based facility provides detailed information about schools including links to school inspection reports.
- Energy in Education
- Ministers Ruairí Quinn and Pat Rabbitte joined forces recently to launch the new ‘Energy in Education’ initiative to help schools manage energy costs and potentially save €6m over the next year
