The FÍS initiative is a wonderful example of a project that encourages creativity and imagination among children and their teachers in Irish schools. Organised jointly by NCTE and Dun Laoghaire Institute for Art, Design & Technology (IADT), the FÍS initative culminates each year in the annual FÍS Film Festival where 25 films are shortlisted for awards in what is essentially an "Oscars" ceremony for Irish schoolchildren.
The 2012 FÍS Film Festival is accepting submissions NOW! For more information on how to take part and to download the FÍS Classroom Resource Pack visit the FÍS Festival website.
Have you a film for 2012? Closing date for film entries is 30th June 2012. To get involved go to: http://www.fisfilmfestival.com/f/Get_Involved.html.
2011 FÍS Film Festival
Have a look at some of the photos from the 2011 FÍS Film Festival where over 700 primary school children from all over Ireland gathered to celebrate their outstanding achievements in film-making.
The President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, received a very excited welcome from the audience. We hope the photos have captured the excitement and pride of the ceremony as it was truly a very memorable day for all.

Aine, that’s great thank you. We had a brilliant day in the Helix, I thought it was so well organised, the children really felt like stars, they were so well looked after and entertained, all the side shows were brilliant and the ceremony itself was outstanding. I loved all the young technicians – super, and the dance routines just lovely and of course our President topped it all – it all finished in no time at all – happy days. We left home at 5.30 a.m. and returned at 9.00 pm. , but all so happy
